About the Artist
“Art is my Happy Place”
Amanda Hill
I’m a local Brisbane artist and teacher who has been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I attended the Queensland College of Art way back in the 1980’s and worked as a designer in my early career. While my children were young, I decided on a change of career and studied full time to become a teacher with the ultimate goal of teaching art in primary school. After many years as a classroom teacher on the Gold Coast, I finally achieved my goal, becoming an Art Teacher at The Southport School in 2019. I continue to teach at TSS while also working as a professional artist.
My work has featured in local and regional exhibitions, and you can currently see pieces on display at Straddivarious Art Gallery in Cleveland, Queensland.
I’m best known for highly detailed animal drawings and heartfelt portrait commissions—capturing treasured pets and people with care and precision.
Alongside realism, I love creating bright, colourful paintings in acrylics and watercolour —bold, graphic designs that nod to my late-1980s graphic design roots and stand out from the crowd.
Every artwork is crafted in my home studio, where intricate drawings can take up to 30 hours to complete.
I work across a range of mediums, including graphite, coloured pencil, soft pastels, watercolour and pen, acrylics, and gouache.
